Weekend Getaways by Private Charter: Short Flights From Delhi and Mumbai
A weekend away should not start with six hours on the road. For families and groups, a charter turns a long drive into a short flight and gives you the Friday evening back. These are some of the getaways our customers ask about most, with real distances from our route data.
From Delhi
- Jaipur: about 232 km (roughly 40 min by jet). Palaces, heritage hotels and food; an easy hop.
- Udaipur: about 543 km (roughly 1 h 5 min by jet). Lakes and lake-side palaces; a favourite for celebrations.
- Shimla: about 280 km (roughly 40 min by jet). Hill air in summer. Check airport and weather conditions, as hill airports have limitations.
- Amritsar: about 414 km (roughly 55 min by jet). The Golden Temple and Punjabi food; a meaningful short trip.
- Varanasi: about 667 km (roughly 1 h 15 min by jet). The ghats at dawn and dusk.
From Mumbai
- Goa: about 425 km (roughly 55 min by jet). Beaches, villas and the season's best weather from November to February. Read our Mumbai to Goa guide.
- Udaipur: about 624 km (roughly 1 h 10 min by jet).
- Nashik: about 158 km (roughly 35 min by jet). Vineyards and weekend estates.
Choosing the aircraft for a weekend
For most of these distances, a turboprop or light jet is ideal. The flights are short, so the difference in flying time between a turboprop and a jet is small, and turboprops often land at smaller airfields easily. For larger families or groups with lots of luggage, a midsize jet gives more cabin and baggage room.
Southern escapes
From Bengaluru, Goa is about 483 km (roughly 1 h by jet) and Kochi about 367 km (roughly 50 min by jet); from Chennai, Madurai is about 417 km (roughly 55 min by jet). Temple towns, backwaters and beaches are all within a short flight.
Timing the season
- October to March is peak season for Rajasthan and Goa, with pleasant weather. Book early for festive weekends.
- April to June suits the hills: Shimla, Dehradun and further north.
- Monsoon brings green landscapes but more weather delays; keep plans flexible.
- December and January mornings in North India can be foggy; see our fog planning guide.
Celebrations
Birthdays, anniversaries and small destination weddings are among the most common reasons for weekend charters. Mention the occasion when you request a quote; operators can often arrange catering or small touches on board.
Making a two-day trip work
- Fly out Friday afternoon or evening, while there is daylight at airports that need it.
- Keep the aircraft or book a return: for a two-day trip, compare keeping the aircraft with you against two one-way flights. See one-way versus return.
- Plan the ground side: cars at both ends make the whole trip seamless.
- Check the season: monsoon and winter fog affect some destinations more than others.
