Every private charter flight in India operates under a specific regulatory framework, whether the passenger is aware of it or not. Understanding the basics helps you ask the right questions when evaluating an operator.

What an NSOP actually is

A Non-Scheduled Operator's Permit (NSOP) is the license issued by India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation that allows a company to operate charter flights, air ambulance services, and other non-scheduled air transport. It is granted under Rule 134A of the Aircraft Rules, 1937, and the accompanying Civil Aviation Requirements set out minimum airworthiness, operational, and financial requirements before a permit is granted.

This is distinct from a scheduled airline's Air Operator Certificate in one important way: an NSOP holder does not run fixed timetabled routes. Every flight is arranged on demand, which is precisely what allows a private charter to depart on your schedule rather than a published one.

What this means when you book
