Flying Private From India to Dubai, Kathmandu or the Maldives: The Basics

Nearby international destinations such as Dubai, Kathmandu, Colombo and the Maldives are popular for private charter from India. The flying is familiar; the paperwork is what changes. Starting early makes the difference.

What is different from a domestic flight

  • Immigration and customs: you depart from and arrive at airports with immigration and customs facilities, and clear formalities on both sides.
  • Passports and visas: every passenger needs a valid passport and any visa the destination requires. Names must match the passenger list exactly.
  • Permissions: the operator arranges landing and overflight permissions for the countries involved, which takes time.
  • Aircraft range: some destinations are beyond smaller aircraft on a single sector, especially with a full cabin.

Lead time

Give as much notice as you can, ideally several days, so passenger details can be submitted and permissions applied for. Last-minute international trips are sometimes possible, but options narrow quickly.

What to send when you ask for a quote

  1. Destination and dates, and whether you are returning with the same aircraft.
  2. Passenger count, nationalities and passport validity.
  3. Any baggage out of the ordinary, and pets. International pet travel has strict import rules.

Popular short international routes

  • Dubai and the Gulf: business, events and family visits.
  • Kathmandu: pilgrimages and mountain trips; mountain airports have their own performance limits.
  • Colombo and the Maldives: holidays; transfers to Maldivian resorts usually continue by seaplane or boat, arranged locally.

Customs and what you carry

Customs rules apply exactly as on a commercial flight: declare what needs declaring, carry currency within the permitted limits, and be ready for checks. Gifts, jewellery for weddings abroad, and high-value equipment should be documented.

Returning to India

Plan the return with the same care: the aircraft either waits abroad, with parking and crew accommodation costs, or returns and comes back for you. For trips of more than a few days, the second option is often cheaper; the flight advisor will compare both.

Documents checklist

  1. Passports valid for the period the destination requires.
  2. Visas or e-visas where needed.
  3. Any health or travel declarations the destination requires.
  4. For pets, the full import paperwork for the destination.

Choosing the aircraft

For the Gulf and the Indian Ocean, midsize, heavy and ultra long range jets such as the Hawker 800XP, Falcon 2000 or Legacy 650 give comfortable range and cabin space. Our fleet page lists range for each aircraft, and why some routes need a fuel stop explains the limits.

Request a quote and mention it is international so we can start the paperwork conversation straight away.
