Flying With Pets on a Private Charter in India

For many families, moving a pet is the main reason to consider a private charter. Pets can often travel in the cabin with you instead of in a cargo hold, and there is no crowded terminal to navigate. The details depend on the operator and aircraft, so it is worth knowing what to ask.

It is the operator's decision

Whether a pet may travel, and where in the aircraft, is decided by the operator for each flight. Some aircraft have upholstery or interior policies that limit pets; others welcome them. Always mention pets when you ask for a quote, including species, breed, size and weight, so we only offer aircraft that accept them.

What operators commonly ask for

  • A recent health certificate from your veterinarian.
  • An up-to-date vaccination record, including rabies.
  • A suitable, secure carrier or crate, and for larger dogs, confirmation that they will stay settled on a lead.
  • For some operators, an absorbent mat or cover for the seat or floor.

International travel with pets involves import rules at the destination, which can be strict and take weeks to meet. Check them well in advance.

Preparing your pet

  1. Get your pet used to the carrier in the days before the flight.
  2. Offer a light meal a few hours before departure and water as usual.
  3. Bring a familiar blanket or toy.
  4. Ask your vet before giving any calming medication. Many vets advise against sedation for flying.

Dogs, cats and other pets

Most requests are for dogs and cats. Birds and other small animals are sometimes possible, subject to the operator. Very large dogs need a larger aircraft with floor space where they can lie down safely. Share your pet's weight and height so the operator can plan.

On the day

  • Walk your dog shortly before arriving at the airport.
  • Keep the pet in its carrier or on a lead through the terminal and on the apron.
  • Follow the crew's instructions about where the pet sits for take-off and landing.
  • Bring water, a bowl, waste bags and cleaning wipes.

Arriving at a new home

If you are relocating, plan the first night for your pet: a quiet room, familiar bedding and a vet contact in the new city. Pets often settle faster after a short, calm private flight than after a long journey through a cargo facility.

Service and assistance animals

If your pet is an assistance animal, mention it. Operators will do their best to accommodate, and the planning is similar.

Choosing the aircraft

Short flights on a turboprop or light jet are usually the easiest for pets. For longer trips, a larger cabin lets you keep your pet close and comfortable. Our fleet page shows typical cabin sizes.

When you request a quote, add your pet's details in the notes and a flight advisor will confirm which aircraft can take them.
